Her Story
|
Rapidly evolving at the state and regional level,
Nicole Martin is one of the most promising female
basketball players to be produced out of the
Southeast. She is a multi-talented player with a
compelling skill for dominating the perimeter in
mid-range and 3-point shooting. Even more to her
credit, Nicole is a “southpaw” (left handed)
connoisseur, who often catches opponents by
surprise. As a member of the 2013 graduating class,
Nicole is now gaining notoriety among Division I and
Division II coaches.

Nicole plays basketball and works with a personal
trainer all year round. In the fall she plays as
member of the
Sparkman High School
girl’s basketball team. In the summer she affiliates
with the
Alabama Roadrunners
girl’s basketball traveling club.
Stats tell the story of Nicole’s success. She
averages double figures in both high school and
travel basketball play. Currently, she is a 39%
3-point shooter and 85% free throw shooter. In
comprehensive shooting from the field, Nicole’s
average is 56%. Her offensive skills allow her to
easily play the 2 and 3 positions. Although these
are her traditional assignments, it’s not uncommon
for Nicole to play the point. Her versatility in
rotating among the 1, 2, and 3 positions, make her a
“triple threat” in executing offensive assaults.
Outside of the shooting domain, Nicole continues to
establish herself as a great passer and play-maker.
She has the gift of “seeing and assessing” the
entire floor. Nicole handles the ball well under
pressure and is often a primary resource for
maneuvering her team through full court presses. She
has consistently demonstrated a keen ability to find
the open man. Through a calm, heads-up demeanor,
Nicole averages 5 assists and 5 rebounds per game.
Last but certainly not least, Nicole is swiftly developing into a
formidable
defensive player. She is accustomed to playing
“man-to-man” defense” and applies all the
fundamentals against an opponent such as blocking
out, denying the pass, applying pressure to the
ball, and switching off
screens. In exercising these elements, Nicole
averages 2 blocks, and 2 steals per game.
Nicole’s talents are not limited to basketball.
Academically, she is a good student, with a
current GPA of 90.33/100 or 3.6/4.0. Nicole holds
membership in the National Junior Honor Society and
Beta Club. In preparation for
future college pursuits, she was selected for the
NASA Inspire Program,
Executive Women of Tomorrow Conference,
Sparkman Medical Academy,
Partners for Innovation in Information Technology
(PIIT) Robotics
Summer Camp,
Pre-Health Exploratory Summer
Institute, and Alabama Governor, Bob Riley’s,
official state delegation to China.

It is Nicole’s dream to play
basketball on the college level via an athletic
scholarship. However, she understands that academics
are her first priority. To date, Nicole has been
steadfast in maintaining the proper balance
between school and extra-curricular commitments. She
has not yet decided on a field of study.
Nicole has a great home infrastructure driven with
traditional values. She hails from a family of
successful professionals and athletes. Her grandfather is a former basketball
player and coach. Both Nicole’s mother and aunt were
standout basketball players of their time. In fact,
her aunt was an All American.
